Could you guess that this was our “H” edition party? You’re one smart cookie, you are! So if you live in or near New England, you know that we had an unseasonal snow storm in October 2011. This one happened on Halloween weekend, boo! The storm hindered our plans, but Kim and Frank were troopers and came over anyway. Thanks guys, we love you! Another pro to not having alot of people showing up is that there was more food for us, sweet! Here is what we served:

We watched Halloween (the original with Jamie Lee Curtis). Not to be a Debbie Downer, but it wasn’t that scary, and if you know me, I am a fraidy cat when it comes to movies. We made the most of the evening and even wore our costumes. Good thing we cleaned up soon afterwards, because the power went out at midnight and stayed out for 2 days. Thank goodness we had friends in the area that had power and let us use their shower, and that we weren’t as unfortunate as others who lost power for over a week! Friends helping friends…the world needs more people who will extend a helping hand to those in need.
I made these for our Smith Night “O” Edition and they were very yummy indeed. This recipe is taken from the Taste of Home Cookies cookbook. I’m sorry that I do not have a photo of them…I need to get better with documenting photos of my cooking and baking. I would love a nice fancy camera for that! ::wink wink:: 🙂
Oatmeal S’mores Cookie
(makes about 6 dozen)
1/2 cup butter – softened
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1.5 tsp vanilla extract
3 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1.5 cups oats
1 cup dark chocolate chips (could use semisweet as well)
1 cup mini marshmallows
In large bowl, cream the butter, shortening, and sugars until fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition.
Mix in the vanilla.
Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Add to the sugar mixture and mix well.
Stir in oats, chocolate chips, and marshmallows.
Drop by heaping teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto greased baking sheets.
Bake at 350° for 9-11 minutes or until golden.
Cool for 1-2 minutes and move to wire racks to cool completely.

This was the first time that I had ever made brisket. And let me tell you…it was delicious! I’ve had people ask when I am going to make it again so that they can come over for dinner! Here’s the recipe. I got it from the Better Homes and Gardens Cook Book.
Oven Barbequed Beef Brisket
1 3 – 3.5 lb. beef brisket
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup chopped onion
3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp cider vinegar
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tsp beef bouillon granules
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
2 cloves garlic – minced
1.5 cups bbq sauce
Trim fat from meat. Place meat in a 13x9x2 baking pan.
In a small bowl stir together water, onion, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, chili powder, bouillon, cayenne pepper, and garlic. Pour over the meat and cover with foil.
Bake in preheated oven at 325° for about 3 hours or until tender, turning once halfway through.
Remove meat and discard the juices. Slice thinly across the grain. Serve with bbq sauce.
